Ulster Immigrant Defense Network (Kingston, NY)

  • Ulster Immigrant Defense Network, Inc. (UIDN) has been serving immigrant communities in Ulster County since 2017. UIDN’s mission is to provide a network of safety and support to immigrants, regardless of status, by ensuring food and housing security for those we serve. As a nonprofit, UIDN helps people to meet their essential and basic needs while also working to develop pathways to self-sufficiency, economic mobility, and security.

  • UIDN offers a food pantry that serves on average 181 families (724 individuals) weekly with 55 new families monthly. UIDN also provides rent and utilities assistance. UIDN is the only program in Ulster County that provides transportation and accompaniment to court hearings and ICE check-ins, both of which are daunting experiences for our immigrant friends and neighbors. We have been instrumental in securing legal status for undocumented persons and asylum seekers, including Special Immigrant Juvenile Status for abandoned youth. In 2023, UIDN created a pilot program in workforce development which assisted a group of ten women in forming a green cleaning worker cooperative by providing business development and training. UIDN also formed a Women’s Academy with the purpose of empowerment of women in the community.

  • Through the years UIDN has become a trusted and reliable resource by the immigrant population. We are continually asked by political leaders, social service agencies, public schools, health care providers, and law enforcement officials to collaborate in addressing issues and concerns in our communities.

  • The multi-year funding from Bloomfield Family Foundation allows UIDN to have the flexibility in determining which programs and services need the most funding in any given year.
